Space Exploration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Omega Cyberspace Space Command (OCSC) and the starship programme spawned from the OCC’s Space Exploration Initiative (sometimes comically abbreviated to ‘SExI’). The Initiative’s primary goal focused on making it possible to explore space by directly visiting stars and other interstellar phenomena. The decision to found (and fund) the Initiative followed the development of hypercurved space-time theory<\/a> and the experimental discovery of tachyon particles. A brand new research facility, the Delta Complex<\/a>, was constructed to research and develop the technologies needed to realise interstellar space travel. Within 2 years of its foundation, the Initiative launched a space shuttle with an experimental hyperdrive<\/a> that would, after a few test runs, be the first object to achieve faster-than-light (FTL) travel. This encouraging result rapidly gave way for the development of interstellar starships, the first of which is the OCSC Event Horizon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

OCSC Event Horizon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The OCSC Event Horizon (registry number: SSC-001) is a Galaxy-class starship. Combining technological innovations from all of the OCC’s advanced research departments, the starship Event Horizon showcases the pinnacle of science and engineering. The advanced technologies onboard the ship include a hyperdrive<\/a> for FTL travel, the new second generation teleporter<\/a>, deflectors, shields<\/a>, particle weapons<\/a>, the latest medical technologies<\/a>, advanced earth-like life support systems<\/a>, a subspace<\/a>* communications array for FTL communication, and many more. Indeed, the Event Horizon is the birthchild of the most advanced technology ever conceived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Specifications<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The ship has a length of 292 meters, spans 15 decks, and features a standard crew of 162 souls. To quickly travel between the front and the stern of the ship, a couple of internal tram lines are available. The maximum cruising speed is 2 876 km\/s. at which speed it takes the ship about 47 minutes to come to a full stop. It is possible to stop the ship much faster, but as the fuel consumption increases exponentially with steeper decelaration gradients, it is only recommended to do so in case of emergency. The maximum FTL speed is 3.24 lightyears\/day, but because of the stress on the hyperdrive, it is not recommended to exceed an FTL speed of 2.54 lightyears\/day for everyday use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Event Horizon has a multispectral navigational array for unprecedented accurate position bearing and is armed with two forward beam cannons<\/a>, two aft beam cannons, drone platforms<\/a> at the upper and port sides, and turrets<\/a> at the upper, front, and lower sides. Protecting the ship are reflective shielding<\/a> and always-on deflective shielding<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*To the best of current knowledge, subspace is an extra spatial dimension that is only accessible to (specific) massless objects. It can therefore not be used for interstellar travel, but is quite suited to relay FTL communication signals.<\/p>\n\n\n
