PPB-42<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When the need arises for a devastating weapon that is suited for close-quarters combat, the Military Division has the answer. A 42-kilowatt Personal Particle Beam called the PPB-42, based on the particle beam cannons<\/a> that are used in starship weaponry. The weapon fires a continuous, high-intensity particle beam for as long as the trigger is pulled. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firing a particle beam through a non-vacuum generally results in a very rapid loss of the beam, because the beam particles are scattered by the medium through which the beam traverses. To overcome this challenge, scientists at the Military Division developed an ‘envelope’ that shields the actual beam from the atoms in the medium. The envelope particles create a wake through which the beam can safely travel. These particles orient themselves in such a way that the beam is shielded until it encounters a substance with a higher density. The sudden change in medium density refracts the envelope particles, exposing the beam so it can deliver its payload. It must be noted that, although the envelope particles adjust to the medium through which the beam traverses, the shielding effect is greatly reduced when the medium is not gaseous with a more or less equal density. It is not recommended to fire the weapon while under water, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
