Ion Laser Cannon

The Ion Laser Cannon (ILC) is a devastating handheld energy weapon developed by the OCC. The weapon works by firing a laser beam at the target that ionises molecules and atoms at the impact site. The longer the beam is fired, the more atoms are ionised. When the trigger is released, the weapon releases a final powerful pulse that quickly deposits additional energy in the target. After this pulse, the atoms and molecules at the target recombine in a few nanoseconds, releasing the energy that was deposited by the ILC in one massive explosion that deals devastating damage to the target and its immediate surroundings. Because of this, using the ILC for close-quarters combat is not recommended.

Because the weapon is heavier, the design is such that the wielder can rest the weapon on the forearm of his trigger hand, while holding the support handle with his other hand for maximal stability. The target optics of the weapon correct for small movements to maximise the impact. The support handle and extended targeting display can also be moved to the other side of the weapon for left-handed wielders.
